Academic Program
Students
are given extensive ‘problem sets’. The problems range in difficulty
and challenge even the most gifted of this highly-talented group. It is
always a great pleasure to observe the satisfaction they get from
solving a really difficult problem.
Topics in the past have included:
- Number Theory
- Topology
- Cryptography
- Combinatorics
- Chaos Theory
- Projective Geometry
- Game Theory
- Knot Theory
Each
course has a lecture and tutorial each day. Tutorial groups are small
(6 to 8 students). Students are encouraged to explore at their own pace
and also to engage in discussions, conjectures as well as detailed
rigourous proofs.
Each year there is also a special mathematics lecture from a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Sciences.
